Cannons Spoil June Game of the Month

Posted in Featured, Game Of The Month

Sunday morning the Okanagan Athletics would host the Vancouver Cannons in the RyanWatters.ca Game of the Month presented by Intersync Video Productions.

Perhaps it was the 11:00am start time but both teams didn’t appear to have much energy, in a game with playoff implications on the line.  The Cannons did beat the Athletics 12-4 in a game that saw 16 walks and three hit batters.

Coming into the game the Athletics trailed the Cannons by a game and a half for the final playoff spot in the BCPBL after a split on Saturday. Despite that the Athletics didn’t appear to have much interest in the game.

After the Cannons took at 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Athletics would tie it and take the lead in the bottom half after a leadoff triple by Steven Van Vooght.    He would score on a Jordan Ramirez sac fly before Davis Todosichuk scored on an RBI single by James Ward.

The A’s lead didn’t last long as in the top of third the Cannons would score five times on five hits. They would add three more in their next at bats, then score two more times in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth the Athletics would finally get one back when Surya Viswanathan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Cannons would quickly get that run back in the top of the sixth.

Then in the bottom of the seventh the Athletics did score a run as Ward would collect his second RBI of the game.

Trevor Lofstrom was hit with the loss, throwing just three innings allowing five earned runs, six hits, striking out one while walking three.
In all, three A’s pitchers walked nine batters and hit two.

The Athletics’ run in the bottom of the seventh inning may have given them momentum as they would beat the Cannons in game two of the doubleheader 11-7; a game that wasn’t featured as the RyanWatters.ca Game of the Month.

Ward would finish 3-4 with two RBIs in the game one and was named the WildPlay Element Parks Player of the Game.  Watch his interview with Ryan…
Ryan’s July broadcasts will be scheduled soon.
