Central Okanagan High School Coach of the Year

Five high school coaches have been nominated based on their team’s performance during the past school year. Four volleyball coaches and a soccer coach have been nominated.
The winning coach will be highlighted on Ryan Watters.ca and win the Ultimate Sports Ticket Package. They will win tickets to the Kelowna Rockets, West Kelowna Warriors, Kelowna Falcons, Okanagan Sun, UBC Okanagan Heat, and Penticton Vees The High School Coach of the Year will also win a special gift courtesy of ShutOut Sports Collectibles.
And the nominees are (alphabetically):
Brian Drosdovech – Immaculata Senior Girls Volleyball
• The Mustangs finished with a Provincial Silver medal this past year
• They won the BC Catholic Schools tournament, played at Notre Dame in Vancouver
• Drosdovech also coaches the Grade 8 girls volleyball team
• He has developed a number of players including Caroline Livingston who will attend and play for Queens University in the fall
John McParland – Mt Boucherie Senior Boys Volleyball
• After an outstanding regular season the Bears qualified for the BC Provincial championships
• The Bears won a Provincial Bronze medal this past year
Tony Overton – OKM Senior Boys Soccer
• Helped form the Huskies senior boys team that has won a Provincial Gold, Silver and Bronze over the last three seasons
• They won the Provincial Silver medal this past year, losing the Gold medal game in penalty kicks
• Huskies scored 92 goals during the regular season and allowed only 14
• They won School District 23 and the UBCO “Bringing the Heat” tournaments
• They won a Silver medal at the Valley Championships
Mike Sodaro – KSS Senior Boys Volleyball
• Won the Valley Championships for the third straight year
• Won the Provincial Silver medal for the second straight year
• Undefeated in both the regular season and during the Valley Championships
• Won the MEI tournament in Langley at the beginning of the season
• Won the Silver medal at the Best of the West tournament
• In 125 games the Owls had an 88% winning percentage
• All players on the roster played in at least 25% off the games
• Also the head coach of grade 8 boys volleyball at KLO middle school
Rob & Irene Smith – Kelowna Christian Senior Girls Volleyball
• Won their third straight Provincial Gold medal
• Won the BC Christian tournament featuring AAA and AA schools. First team from the Interior to win the tournament in over 20 years
• Won the Silver medal at the Valley Championships
• Competed well at the Best of the West and UBCO tournaments
