Joel Lamont worked quickly and efficiently and the Okanagan College Coyotes offense took advantage of their opportunities in a 5-3 win against the Vancouver Island Baseball Institute (VIBI) Mariners on Saturday.

Lamont collected his second win of the spring with a complete game six hitter, while striking out five.

The Yotes offense was outhit 6-5, however took advantage of sloppy defense and scored four unearned runs.  Sophomore Brandon Graham led the charge with two hits, an RBI and a run scored.  Bryan Elias and Clay Davis each had a hit and a run scored.

In game two of the doubleheader on Saturday, the starting pitchers looked untouchable until the sixth inning.  Coyotes’ starter Zach Burlon (pictured) scattered six hits, while Jorhn Kaluzniak of the Mariners allowed just one hit and struck out 10.

The Mariners offense touched Burlon in the bottom of the sixth, chasing him after scoring two runs.  Freshman Cole Parusinni struggled out of the pen giving up four runs on four hits in the inning.

The Mariners evened the weekend series with a 6-0 victory.

Graham and Derek Shedden collected the lone hits for the Coyotes.

The two clubs will match up for another doubleheader on Sunday.    Tanner Collins and Marcus Drewry are the scheduled starters.

The Coyotes are back at home on Friday April 18 when they host the other four teams in the CCBC for the Easter Weekend Tournament.
