Coyotes Fall Invitational Recap

Posted in Featured, Sports

The Okanagan College Coyotes hosted their Fall Invitational baseball tournament last weekend and finished 4-2.

For the most part, this is the only time the Yotes and head coach Geoff White has the opportunity to see the competition that they will face in the spring season.

The Coyotes opened the exhibition tournament against the Okanagan Athletics from the BC Premier League and recorded an 8-2 victory last Thursday evening.

Friday the Coyotes played in a very busy triple header and won all three games.

First up was the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Wolfpack and a 4-0 win.  The Yotes were led by veteran lefty Zach Burlon who threw a complete game shutout.

The Coyotes followed that up with a 4-3 walk off victory over the University of Calgary to remain perfect in the tourney.

Then in the night cap the Coyotes would face the Vancouver Island Baseball Institute (VIBI) Mariners and record a 5-3 win.  Starter Tanner Collins was solid on the bump.

On Saturday the Coyotes played just one game and fell 7-4 to the Mariners.  The Coyotes were up 4-0 through the first four innings behind a solid start from Joel Lamont. Once he left the game Coach White gave some of his younger pitchers a chance to throw to see what they could do against a quality opponent.

Then on Sunday the Coyotes finished the tournament with a 5-1 loss to the Wolfpack.“Overall I was happy with how our guys performed,” said Coach White.  “This weekend gave us a chance to scout our players and see what they could do in a game situation, and at the same time see what the other teams have going into the spring.”

The Coyotes are 12-4 this fall season and will host their annual Alumni game on Thursday at 6:30pm.  Players from all six years will play.
