Deck is PACWEST Golfer of the Year

Posted in Featured, Sports

Fourth year golfer Will Deck (Kelowna, BC) was able to make up the two shots needed to capture top spot overall to close out the PACWEST golf season.

Deck’s two-day total of 144 was enough to pass Fraser Valley’s (UFV) Darren Whitehouse, whom he was chasing going into the weekend, and hold off hard charging Aaron Pauls (UFV), who started the tournament five strokes back of Deck, to be named PACWEST golfer of the year with the lowest cumulative total of 425 at the end of the three tournament season.

“[The Player of the year] was an awesome way too cap off a very solid year,” commented Deck when he was asked on finishing on top of the leaderboard.

Men’s final individual PACWEST standings for UBC Okanagan golfers after Will Deck’s (425) first place finish are: Salmon Arm’s Cody Bell (8th – 440), Kelowna golfer’s James Casorso and Michael Lee tied at 20th with (465).

In Heat women’s individual play Carolyn Lee (1st year, Calgary, AB) just missed the podium, finishing in fourth, one stroke out of third place with her 108-hole score of 492. Teammate Kelsey McGillis (1st year, Calgary, AB) finished 11th.

Will Deck will make his way to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national championships at the Royal Quebec Golf Club just outside of Quebec City, QB hosted by St. Lawrence College on October 15-18.
