Falcons Begin Final Road Trip

Posted in Featured, Sports

The Kelowna Falcons will begin their final road trip of the 2011 season on Saturday at Borleske Stadium to take on the Walla Walla Sweets.

Earlier this year the Falcons beat the Sweets two out of three at Elks Stadium.  The two victories for the home side were by one run.  A 1-0 win behind a wonderful start from David Otterman who picked up the win.  Dillon Bryant chased home Nick Colwell in the second inning off a double for the only run on the game.  Cade Bowen picked up the save.  Four pitchers held the Sweets to just two hits.

In game two in Kelowna, the Falcons needed four hours and 31 minutes to beat the Sweets 8-7 in 14 innings.  Kyle Pearson would score the winning run on a wild pitch after the Falcons had chances to score in the ninth, tenth, twelfth and thirteenth.

In the series finale the Falcons fell 6-2 in 10 innings.

The Falcons sit 7.5 games back of Bellingham for the final playoff spot with 12 to play.  The Bells are in Cowlitz tonight for the series finale and the Black Bears are trying for a sweep.  The Sweets sit in third place in the East Division, 6.5 up on the Falcons and just one game back on the Bells. The Sweets will host the Bend Elks tonight.

The series between the Falcons and Sweets have some playoff implications as the Falcons are fighting to stay alive as well as play the role of spoiler at the same time.

Against the Sweets Bo Folkinga is 5-12, 2 RBI, Dillon Bryant is 4-12, two doubles and 3 RBI and Ben Swinford is 4-13.  The Sweets have been lead by Alex Stanford is 6-15 with two RBIs.

The Falcons will enter the weekend on a two game winning streak after finishing off the Bells at Elks last Sunday before entering the All Star Break.  The two clubs will meet again to conclude the regular season August 8-10 at Elks.

Following the series with the Sweets the Falcons will travel to Wenatchee to take on the first place Applesox.  In the second series of the summer the Sox shutout the Falcons in all three games in Wenatchee.

The Falcons will return home August 5th for the final six game home stand of the year.  They’ll host the Kitsap Bluejackets and the Bellingham Bells.
