The Kelowna Jays were tripped up 5-4 by the Burnaby Collegiate Bulldogs in the June Game of the Month.

The Jays committed seven errors on Saturday afternoon, leading to four of their five runs, including the game winner.

Jays’ starter Zach Burlon was very good, throwing a complete game.  He struck out one, scattered eight hits and allowed only one earned run.

After the Bulldogs scored in the top of the first, the Jays came right back tying the game in the bottom of the inning as Tyler Thorson scored on a two-out RBI single by Dawson Yates.

Down 5-1 in the fifth, the Jays saw a lead-off double by Johnny Hosmer and capitalized.  Thorson knocked him in with an infield single.

In the seventh the Jays made it very interesting.  Thorson brought home Ryan Lucky on an RBI sacrifice fly.  Yates then scored Hosmer with a two-out single to bring the Jays within one, but that’s as close as they would come.

The Jays scored four times on seven hits and stranded seven.  Defensively the Jays looked out of sorts committing seven errors.

Yates was named the WildPlay Element Parks Player of the Game finishing with two hits, two RBIs and a walk.

In the second game of the doubleheader the Jays beat the Bulldogs 2-1.  These two teams will face each other twice on Sunday starting at 11:00am.
