Kelowna Jays Fall Short at Nationals

The Kelowna Jays, representing Team BC won their won their finale at the Quebec National Championships with a 7 – 2 victory over Team Saskatchewan.

Jays pitcher Dawson Newman was dominant striking out 14 batters, allowing just one hit and two runs.

Offensively Landon Briscoe led the way finishing 2 for 4 with three RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases.  Garrett Wiese also had a good day going 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Though they didn’t medal at the Nationals it certainly restores the players confidence that they can compete at this level.  As this team boarded the plane for Quebec they had great hopes and aspirations of winning a medal but dropping their first three games made it difficult.

The Jays finish in seventh place with a 2-3 record.

Team Quebec, won the gold with a thrilling defeat over Team Ontario 1 by a score of 6-4.  Trois Rivieres  won the up the Bronze.

The Jays players will return to Kelowna on Tuesday at 6pm.
