Sunday afternoon the West Kelowna Warriors found themselves a bit out of their element, challenged by the Kelowna 18+ women’s ringette Chiefs to a game of ringette in Ryan’s November Game of the Month.

In a packed Rutland Arena the Chiefs and Warriors put on a terrific show to celebrate RBC’s Sports Day in Canada in the inaugural Shutout Sports Challenge Cup.  The Warriors held on for a 7-4 victory, but the real winners were the organizers from the Kelowna Ringette Association.

After Brett Minnear of the Warriors opened the scoring, Kelley Taylor scored her first of two after Taylor Pomponio completely undressed the Warriors defence.

The game was extremely entertaining for both fans and players.  Both clubs were up and down the ice and had their chances, but the goalies; Mel Brown and Scott Patton, were on their game.

Kyle Marino scored a pair of goals, as did Minnear, while Liam Backburn, Kyler Hope and Mac Ferner also lit the lamp for the Warriors.   The Chiefs saw goals from Jessica Ossachuk, Nicole Lees and a pair from Taylor.   Her second was truly spectacular and was the goal of the game.  Coming down on the right wing, she dangled pasted three Warrior defenders, before dragging the ring to the back hand and put it top shelf on Patton.  It brought crowd to a thunderous roar.

Following the Warriors’ victory Alex Draper from Shutout Sports and Collectibles awarded the Shutout Sports Challenge Cup to Andrew Johnson the captain of the Warriors.

Congratulations to the organizers of the inaugural Shutout Sports Challenge Cup, the event was a huge success.

50 “Watters Warriors” were in attendance as well and received a goodie bag courtesy of WildPlay Element Parks, Rona, Scotiabank and Creative Trophies and Gifts.
