The RyanWatters.ca October Game of the Month presented by Intersync Video Productions will kick-off Friday night as the KSS Owls (1-4) host the WJ Mouat Hawks (3-2) at the Apple Bowl in BC high school football action.

The Owls have struggled out of the gate this season and are coming off a loss this past weekend to the Mount Boucherie Bears 14-11.

Offensively the Owls have used three quarterbacks.  This past weekend Callum Reid handled the duties and on the season is 12 of 22 for 106 yards and a touchdown.    Returning starter Shawn Gordon has been the number one this season completing 21 of 48 for 323 yards and two touchdowns.

Their main threats through the air have been Parker Simson and Caleb Jackson.  Combined these two have caught 23 passes for 399 yards and two majors.  On the ground however the Owls have been led by Nathan Eyre who has carried 100 times for 504 yards and has a touchdown.  Seth Campbell has chipped in with 12 carries for 72 yards and has scored a pair of TDs, but has also fumbled twice.

Defensively the Owls have given up 155 points in five games and are on a two game losing streak.  Defensive lineman Connor Novak has 23 tackles, a sack and a force fumble, while linebacker Rocky March has 18 stops and a sack.  Simson leads the club with three interceptions.

The Owls will be in tough against the Hawks on Friday night, on a two game winning streak.  The Hawks (3-2) sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference and have scored 196 points in the first five games.

Quarterback Hunter Struthers has completed 33 of 60 passes this season for 554 yards, fifth most in the league and six touchdowns.  His favourite target has been tightend Jake Firlotte who has caught 11 balls for 205 yards and three majors.  Slater McRae is averaging 20.2 yards a catch making seven receptions for 142 yards and a score.

The run game has been led by Maleek Irons who is among the league leaders with 67 carries for 531 yards and has scored six touchdowns.  He’s averaging 177 a game and 7.9 yards a carry.

On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Manpreet Chhina has collected 21 tackles to lead the Hawks.   Levi Hua has three sacks, while Irons has made 18 stops and sack and an interception.

Kick-off at the Apple Bowl is scheduled for 6:30pm on Friday night.   Following the realignment of the Conferences this season, this will be the first meeting between the Owls and Hawks in recent memory.
