Okanagan Sun Introduce New Head Coach

Posted in Featured, Videos

On Monday the Okanagan Sun introduced their new head coach for the 2013 season.  Shane Beatty made a brief statement in the Sun club house at the Apple Bowl becoming the 15th head coach in franchise history.

Beatty will be looked upon to turn the Sun around after their worst record (3-7) in their storied history. Since being hired in December, Beatty has been hard at work recruiting players, which he says is one of his favourite parts of the job.

He met with Ryan to talk about upcoming season and what he has in store for his players.

Following the Beatty introduction the Sun released their 2013 schedule.

For the second consecutive year the Sun will play an “unbalanced” schedule.  They’ll play 10 regular season games kicking off on Saturday July 27 when they host the Valley Huskers (formerly the Chilliwack Huskers) at the Apple Bowl at 7:00pm.  The Sun will face the Huskers and Interior rival the Kamloops Broncos a total of six times, while travelling to the Island twice.  They will face their nemesis Vancouver Island Raiders both home and away, and will host the defending BCFC champion Langley Rams in their only meeting on August 24.  The Sun will have a bye during the Labour Day weekend.  As in years past the Sun will host games on Saturday night before Labour Day, then host two Sunday afternoon games following the holiday.

The complete Sun schedule is as follows:

Saturday July 27 vs. Valley Huskers – 7:00pm
Saturday August 3 vs. Vancouver Island Raiders – 7:00pm
Saturday August 10 @ Westshore Rebels – 4:00pm
Saturday August 17 @ Kamloops Broncos – 7:00pm
Saturday August 24 vs. Langley Rams – 7:00pm
Saturday September 7 @ Vancouver Island Raiders – 2:00pm
Saturday September 14 @ Valley Huskers – 1:00pm
Saturday September 21 @ Kamloops Broncos – 7:00pm
Sunday September 29 vs. Valley Huskers – 2:00pm
Sunday October 6 vs. Kamloops Broncos – 2:00pm

Sun President Paul Carson says, “Schedule looks good, it’s never easy to make it work for everybody but we as an organization are happy with it.”

The playoffs are set for October 12 and 13, with the Cullen Cup BCFC Championship game scheduled for the weekend of October 19th.

Ryan will once again be the lead broadcaster as all home and away games will be live on AM 1150.
