Owls Fly To Valley Title

The KSS Owls rallied for a come from behind victory, beating the Mount Bourcherie Bears 85-79 in the 2014 AAAA boys basketball Valley Championship game on Friday night.

The host Bears jumped out with an impressive 28-15 lead after the first quarter.  Senior Josiah Joseph led the charge with 10 points.

The second quarter belonged to Bears forward Quincy Johnson, netting 17 of his game high 26 points in the frame.    The Bears lead at halftime was 52-34.

The Owls however came alive in the second half, scoring 25 points in the third quarter.  Grade 10 student Parker Simson tallied 10 points in the frame, while Nav Sandhu connected on two-three pointers and eight points to cut the Bears lead to 65-59.

In the final quarter the Owls hot shooting continued, while the Bears cooled off.  The Owls scored 26 points in the Q led by senior Buzz Truss and his 11 points.   Simson scored five of his team high 25 points in the fourth, while his brother Cooper collected nine points in the final frame.

The Owls outscored the Bears 51-27 in the second half to claim the Valley title and propel them to the Provincial championships in Langley, March 11-15.  Unfortunately for the Bears, their season comes to a close as only one team from the Valley qualifies for the Provincials.

The Owls will await the release of the championship schedule to determine the first opponent.
