Six Coyotes Win League Awards

Six players from the Coyotes were honoured on Thursday morning by the Canadian College Baseball Conference (CCBC) as the championship tournament is set to get underway on Thursday afternoon.

The CCBC named infielder Garrett Wiese and starting pitcher Marcus Drewry to the First Team All-CCBC Team.

Drewry tied the league lead with five wins on the campaign, finishing 5-0 with a 2.61 ERA, striking out 19.  He threw three complete games, 38 innings and allowed just 11 earned runs.

Wiese was a leader during the regular season for the Yotes.  He was one of only three players league wide with 94 at bats, finishing with a .309 average.  He was third in the CCBC with 29 hits.  The senior also collected four doubles, two triples a homerun and 15 RBIs.

Four Coyotes were named to the Second Team All-CCBC Team; infielder Derek Shedden, outfielder Brandon Graham, starting pitcher Austin Orsted and infielder Aaron Gasiorowski.

Shedden in his freshman year finished with a .278 average after 90 at bats.  He collected 25 hits, two triples, 12 RBIs and had a team high nine steals.

Graham won the CCBC award for most RBIs in a season with 20.  He finished his sophomore season with a .272 average, 22 hits, two homeruns in 81 at bats.

Gasiorowski hit .300 in 13 games in his freshman year.  He tallied 12 hits, a double and three RBIs.

Orsted was simply awesome in his freshman season.  He finished 1-1 in five appearance, threw one complete game and collected a team low 2.42 ERA.  He struck out 19 while throwing 26 innings.

The Coyotes open the championship tournament on Thursday afternoon at 4:00pm when they face the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack.
