Sport Hero: Lenai Schmidt

Posted in Featured, Videos

Last week UBCO Heat women’s volleyball player Lenai Schmidt was named a Community Sport Hero by Pacific Okanagan.

As a defensive specialist, Lenai is a veteran libero with the UBC Okanagan Heat Volleyball program where she has had an impressive five year career.  She will graduate this Spring with two BCCAA Provincial Titles, one CCAA Title, BCCAA All Rookie Team member honours, and as one of the best liberos in the CIS.

In the 2013/14 season, Lenai has catapulted to the top of the defensive statistics chart where she is currently third in the Canada West Division with 174 digs (3.7 digs/set) and in the top 15 in the CIS.  As the end of the season draws near, the team will once again rely heavily on Lenai’s veteran leadership in the back court as they look to make some noise in the post season.

Off the court, Lenai is a highly involved member of the volleyball community as a dedicated camp coach, tournament coordinator and volunteer official.  Aside from volleyball, she also volunteers annually for the Parkinson’s Superwalk, UBCO Rez Move In and the Wine Country Half Marathon.  Lenai will graduate with a degree in Psychology and will continue to pursue her athletic career in volleyball.
