Ryan Watters is proud to announce that Tony Sodaro has been named the “Ryan Watters.ca Sports Person of the Year” for 2011.
One of Tony’s roles is the head coach of the senior girl’s volleyball team at Kelowna Senior Secondary (KSS).  For the first time since the 1950s Tony led a Kelowna high school to a provincial gold medal in the girls AAAA category.  It is the first time KSS has won the honour.  The Owls also won a host of other tournaments in 2011 including the Valley Championships, City Championships and the UBC Okanagan volleyball tournament.
Tony’s involvement with KSS goes well beyond the head coach of the senior girl’s volleyball team.  In 2011 he would be involved with KSS’s Cancer Week in which efforts raised about $60,000 for the BC Cancer Foundation, the extremely popular KSS Air Band competition and was the public address announcer at the Interior Savings Western Canada Basketball tournament back in February.
With all the events, teams and clubs Tony is involved with he is a teacher and is working towards his Masters Degree.
Tony Sodaro is the 2011 Ryan Watters.ca Sports Person of the Year winner.

Tony Sodaro’s nomination from his brother Mike Sodaro:
I nominate Tony Sodaro, the head coach of the 2011 KSS Sr. Girls Volleyball Provincial Champions.  Tony coached his girl’s team to the Provincial Championships Gold Medal for the first time in KSS history.  He also organized the biggest high school volleyball tournament in BC.  He had 96 boys and girls teams from all over BC in the Best of the West Tournament hosted at KSS this year.  He has dedicated countless hours to volleyball in Kelowna and BC, and he has done it all as a volunteer coach.  He also organized the Jr. Best of the West tournament at KSS (50) teams, and the KSS grade 7 jamboree (20) teams.  He does all this for the love of the game and coaching.  Please consider my brother for this award, as his contributions to Kelowna Volleyball are tremendous.
A secondary nomination for Tony said the following:
“Tony taught them (KSS senior girls team) the power of visualizing, reflecting and focus.   He not only taught them that, I believe he lead through example.  This is why I would like to nominate Tony Sodaro for Sports Person or Coach of the Year.  He deserves it…not to mention he did all of the while in the middle of a Masters Degree, teaching his regular teaching job and more.”
Tony was selected by a panel of judges who read over all seven nominations with great detail before determining the winner.
