The Sun will stay on the road this weekend in a highly anticipated match up with the Langley Rams at McLeod Park Stadium.

It’s the first of three meetings of the season between what many believe will be a preview of the Cullen Cup championship game.

The Sun are coming off a 41-7 drubbing of the Valley Huskers last week, which saw the defense shine and the offense develop as the game went on.  The Rams on the other hand beat the Vancouver Island Raiders 44-36.

This will mark the first game in Langley since August 25, 2012 for the Sun,

Even though this is just Week 2, this is such an intriguing match-up with a star studded cast.  Just some of the names the Sun will highlight are the likes of Cam Bedore, Alex Bradley, Lerone Robinson, Brennen Van Niselrooy, Robbie Yochim, Jonas Gering and JT Fernandez.  The Rams also have a number of weapons including Nathan Lund, Malcom Williams Tore Corrado, Daniel English, Jacob Patko, Brandon Klein and Anthony Daley.

Despite the win last weekend the Rams collected just 273 yards of total offense, 223 of which was through the air. Receiver Corrado accounted for 122 of it on seven catches.  The Sun defense on the other hand only gave up 212 total yards to the Huskers.

While the Rams passed to victory, the Sun used the run.   Bradley carried 13 times for 121 yards and scored a touchdown.  In all, the Sun gained 236 yards on the ground; compared the Rams rushing a total of 16 times for 75 yards.

Through the air, two Sun quarterbacks combined for nine completions and 173 yards, while two Rams QBs completed 13 passes for 223 yards.

Defensively, both teams are very solid.  Last week the Sun forced four turnovers, the Rams forced three.  Both teams had a pick six, the Rams of 84 yards (John Beckerleg) and the Sun of 75 yards (Yochim).  The Sun D gave up 26 yards on the ground, the Rams allowed 73.

Special Teams will also be an exciting match-up as both sides are filled with exciting players.   Along with Yochim, Dexter Janke showed dynamic speed running back kicks for the Sun last weekend.  Van Niselrooy is a threat period.  He blocked a field goal attempt last weekend, rushed a fake punt 45 yards for a first down and is always dangerous when he lines up as the punter; either kicking or running.

John Beckerleg of the Rams showed he is a weapon when returning kicks.  Against the Raiders last weekend he returned a kick-off 90 yards for a major.  Kicker Steve Thomas is as accurate as they come, connecting on three field goals on Saturday.

The trenches could be an awfully interesting place on Saturday night as the Rams offensive line averages 290 pounds and 6’3.    Conversely the Sun defensive line averages 6’2 and 239 pounds.

With this highly anticipated match-up, the smallest mistake can turn into a big problem.  The field turf in Langley could turn into track meet with the speed of both clubs.

Kick-off on Saturday night is set for 7:00pm, with the Kick Off Show beginning at 6:30pm with Ryan on AM 1150.
