UBCO Female Athlete of the Year

Third year middle Katy Klomps of the women’s volleyball team gets to etch her name in the annals of Heat fame as the UBC Okanagan Female Student Athlete of the Year.

As a starter and arguably the most important cog in her team’s defense-first style, Klomps became one of the most dominant forces not only in Canada West, but in the CIS as well. She finished second in total blocks-per-set in the CIS, becoming a Canada West Second Team All-Star, helping her team advance to the Heat’s first Canada West Final Four in school history.

A strong student in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, she maintained an 80% average on top of her busy volleyball schedule. Klomps  is the thirteenth women’s volleyball player to earn top honours since it was first awarded in 1991-92.
