The Coyotes will travel on the road AND ferry this weekend with a trip to Nanaimo to face the Vancouver Island Baseball Institute (VIBI) Mariners in a four game series.

It’s the first series with the Mariners this spring.  Last season the Yotes were 5-3 against their island rivals.

This series could be high scoring, as both teams have a struggling pitching staff.  The Yotes have the highest team ERA at 5.66, while the M’s have the second highest at 5.06.

Offensively the Coyotes have hit .244 as a team, led by sophomore Braeden Heyland and his .353 average and his league leading nine RBIs.  Senior Garrett Wiese has a team leading 13 hits and a .355 average, collecting five RBIs.

The Mariners (2-4) have three players in the CCBC’s top 10, led by Cody Pendergast and his .409 average.   Infielder Tyson Dyck is hitting .389 with a homer and three RBIs, while infielder Gobind Sall is hitting at a .368 clip in only 19 at bats.

The Coyotes (4-7) who are coming off two straight wins at TRU will send 1-0 righty Joel Lamont the mound in Game 1 on Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm.  Lefty Zach Burlon will get the start in Game 2.

Sunday will see another doubleheader as righty Tanner Collins and his league leading 22 strikeouts will throw for the Yotes and 2-0 righty Marcus Drewry will start the final game on Sunday at 1:30pm.

The Coyotes finally return home for the CCBC’s Easter Weekend tournament at Elks Stadium beginning Good Friday, April 18th.
