The Kelowna Raiders beat the Armstrong Shamrocks in the July Game of the Month, 15-11 on Tuesday night.  They take a 1-0 series lead in the best of three Shaw Cup Final.

After the Shamrocks scored on their first shot of the game, the Raiders responded with two quick goals by Patrick McMillan and Luke Bailey, just minutes apart.

The teams would trade the next few goals as Cory Siegner, Joe Brown (two goals) and McMillan gave the Raiders a 6-5 lead after the first period.

In the second period the action was impressive as the teams combined for 12 goals in the frame. Siegner scored a pair, the captain Jacob Illichmann lit the lamp and Pho Heng had the goal of the game with an unbelievable 360 degree goal that whistled by the goalie.   After the dust settled the Raiders held a 13-9 lead heading into the third.

The final 20 minutes was a spirited affair with a lot of physical play after the whistle.  Just four goals were scored as McMillan and Bailey tallied for the homeside.

With three goals and excellent defensive play, McMillan is named the WildPlay Element Parks Player of the Game.

The Raiders took advantage of the Shamrocks intensity and scored six power play goals.

Game 2 of the championship series goes Friday night in Armstrong.  If necessary Game 3 will be Tuesday at Memorial Arena in a winner take all game.
